The Secretary by Zoe Lea

Warning: this book is hard to put down!

‘When single mum Ruth has a brief fling with Rob, she's mortified to discover that he lied to her. He lied to her, because he's married. Worse still, he's the husband of Janine, head of the PTA at the primary school where Ruth works as secretary, and when the truth of their fling is discovered, Ruth suddenly has a lot of enemies at the school gates.’

The suspense builds rapidly as Ruth’s carefully organised life starts to unravel. When she tries to fight back against a tide of injustice after her fling with Rob becomes public, Ruth makes some rash and disastrous decisions. Things keep going from bad to worse and I just had to keep turning the pages to find out what she’d do next.

The pace of this book is satisfyingly relentless and the ending is as dramatic and surprising as Zoe Lea’s clever writing promises.
